I am feeling very anxious today. And a little discouraged. I have been reading yahoo groups online about International Adoption and Guatemala Adoptions. Today I read...
"I wouldn't start a new adoption right now. It woud be very dangerous. I know our agency is doing postponements that are for one year. If at a year things are still closed they will make families switch countries or end their contract. The hague goes into effect in April so that is when we will see what the US will allow. That is key right now because you can't get a visa without them and can't bring your child home unless they are allowing things to continue." AND "We just returned from our pick-up trip on Friday. We were told by someone at the Embassy last week that by September all cases that are in process should be completed. It appears at this time that they are not currently expecting any more adoptions after that. This is so sad because there are so many children there who needs families. Maybe if we all continue to contact our government we can do something. Together we can make a difference!!"
So of course, I am flipping out! We have not heard anything from our agency on any of this. Guatadopt.com is saying to be leary of any agencies who are still accepting applications. Of course there is never a guarantee with any country regardless of your agency.
I am just really discouraged. Why can't things ever just be easy? UGH!!!
Please pray that when April 1 rolls around Guatemala will have figured things out and we will be able to proceed and bring our little girl home.
Thanks!

Hey. Crappy news, but don't believe everything you read online. Make sure your agency either gives you the answers you need or speak with an expert- like someone from the consulate or someone directly related to the policies. I know the Department of State has a website of international adoption countries that they are working with and they try to keep it updated. I'm sorry this time has been so stressful and I wish you guys all the best.
