Agency Phone Call

Hello kitty iconWell let's see. After a few days of panic and some questionable "words of advice" we finally put a call into our agency. As I am sure many of you know, International Adoption is a very LONG and sometimes scary road. There are no garuantees when you take this journey.
The problem is, no one knows for sure what will happen when April 1 gets here. The countries are doing there best to come up with an agreement that will satisfy the Hague Treaty. Guatemala is trying to come up with a system that will be safer for the children and more controlled. Everything will go through the government, in order to make every adoption legal.
So, we talked to our agency. We told them our concerns and asked a lot of questions. Of course, they can't be specific with what they know because they have to be careful not to tell us something that may truly not happen, which is understandable. But she did say, "if she were us, she would wait until April 1, it's only 5 weeks away!"
That being said, we have decided to stick with our decision (at least at this point) to adopt from Guatemala. Our paper work and approvals are all ready to go. We will be prepared when April 1 comes if in fact the country reopens and continues adoptions. With any luck we will be one of the first groups to go through Central Authority. From there-we don't really know. There hasn't been anything in writing saying what the new procedures will be or if there will be any new required documents.

Please pray that our government will be able to come up with a solution to this problem. There a many children in need of a loving stable family. And until these laws are satisfied, these children are unable to come home.

The Miracle of Adoption
"We witness a miracle every time a child enters into life. But those who make their journey home across time and miles, growing within the hearts of those who wait to love them, are carried on the wings of destiny and placed among us by God's very own hands."
